Yami Yugi (real name: Atem) is the deuteragonist in the manga and anime Yu-Gi-Oh! by Kazuki Takahashi. Yami Yugi is the ancient spirit of a dead pharoh that has been reincarnated as a young Japanese boy in the modern era.

He is voiced by Megumi Ogata in the Toei anime version, who is best known as the voice of Yukito Tsukishiro/Yue from Cardcaptor Sakura in the original Japanese version. In English Version Yami is voiced by Dan Green who is also known for voicing Knuckles the Echidna.

Why He Rocks

  1. His characterization of being the spirit of an ancient Pharaoh who was once the ruler of Egypt five thousand years ago, and is brought into the soul of his modern reincarnation, Yugi Muto, through the Millennium Puzzle is awesome and well written.
  2. Like Yugi, he's a very talented duelist who's dueling skills have managed to surpass Yugi's arch-rival Seto Kaiba.
  3. The fact that he stands out as a more stronger and braver side of Yugi helps show how much Yugi needs to grow to become braver.
  4. His character design is very well descriptive, as he looks like an older and stronger Yugi Muto.
  5. His voice actor Dan Green not only puts in a great performance, it is a very well memorable and energized performance that is Dan Green's most well known performance.
