Loki Laufeyson is the overall main antagonist of the Infinity Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, serving as the main antagonist of Thor, a cameo antagonist in Captain America: The First Avenger, the main antagonist of The Avengers, the tritagonist as well as the central antagonist of Thor: The Dark World, the deuteragonist of Thor: Ragnarok, a supporting character in Avengers: Infinity War, a cameo antagonist in Avengers: Endgame, the main protagonist of its upcoming spin-off series of the same name and a guest star in the upcoming animated anthology series What If...?.

Why He Rocks

  1. He's one of the most iconic Marvel film villains ever created, next to Thanos.
  2. Tom Hiddleston does a memorable performance as this demigod trickster.
  3. He may not be the MCU's most competent bad guy, and might have a weak motivation. But that motivation (which is wanting to get attention) is actually pretty relatable.
    • He also succeeds in taking over Asgard in Thor: The Dark World
  4. He's a very charming character and one of the only Marvel film villains who smiled for some time, and really made the most out his villain role, being the trickster and the manipulator.
  5. Speaking of which, his backstory is very sympathizing -- Loki was born from Frost Giants initially; Said race was opposed by Asgardians. Odin had adopted him, took him to Asgard, disguised him as an Asgardian and hid the truth from Loki. Odin had always favored his son Thor over Loki, even though Thor was rough and impatient, and none of the Asgardians (Odin included) gave Loki any kind of respect or acknowledgement. Then one day, Loki found out the truth and was heartbroken that his "father" had lied to him his entire life. This caused him to go bitter and vow revenge on his father and brother for their actions. -- This gives him a proper motive for turning evil and makes him stand out from the other MCU villains as a unique and three-dimensional character.
  6. He gets more screen time than any of the other Marvel villains, which gives the writers plenty of time to develop his character and role and even give him development. The fact that he doesn't die at the end of his first movie certainly helps. He even teams up with Thor to stop Hela in Thor: Ragnaork, proving he's not heartless like people say he is.
  7. Since 2017, the saga's villains had in the Nostalgia Critic's words: "took a page from Loki's cookbook" to become more memorable.
    • Erik Killmonger from Black Panther was relatable like Loki.
    • Ego from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was charming like Loki
    • Grandmaster and Hela both from Thor: Ragnarok were unique like Loki.
    • and Thanos from Avengers: Infinity War had a lot of focus like Loki.
