Katie Rosebud Mitchell is the protagonist of The Mitchells vs. The Machines. She is an 18-year-old girl who has a passion for technology and filming videos as she dreams to go to college where she will participate in filming.
Why She Rocks[]
- Throughout the film, she is so imaginative as she often pulls out some interesting and comical special effects to the film since she is supposed to be the narrator of the film. Even her filming skills are top-notch
- Katie gets massive character development where she starts off as a technology-obsessed individual who seems to have some feud with her dad. Katie later learns about the importance of family and even accepts what her family is. Of course, she did wanted to go to a college that was far from her home mainly because of her parents, but later she starts to admit that she misses her parents after she enters college.
- Compared to the rest of the Mitchells, Katie is the most active fighter of her family which could consider her to be an action girl capable of fighting and defending herself against robots
- Her backstory is sympathetic as her imaginative mind made her prevent making any lasting friends since she was little. To be fair, she feels at peace when she notices that there are students like her going to the college of her dreams like Jade for example.
- The home-videos that Rick made of Katie when she was little is so beautiful as it shows that Rick and Katie have been having a strained relationship in current days. Even Katie when she was little was adorable to watch.
- She has some humorous moments like tricking Rick by having Monchi lick him in such a silly way, using Monchi as a distraction for the robots, or when she makes her films.
- Her sexuality makes her stand out in such a fair way that the writers did a good job presenting her as an LGBT character without being so stereotypical about it. Sure, Katie doesn't mention that she has a crush on someone, but it still works because they don’t make a big deal out of it.
- She and her family are sole survivors of the film when the robots started to take over Earth. Even though the family may not look like survivors at first glance.
- Wacky character design that fits so well with the film
- She respects her little brother Aaron's sexuality.
- The way she is animated is uncanny at times but mostly nice.
Bad Qualities[]
- At first she starts as a jerk who seems to be obsessed with technology and treats her dad like trash.
- Sometimes she does have some mediocre attempts at humor like the ones that are meme-related.
