James is a medium-sized baller engine and the deuteragonist (alongside Percy the Small Engine) of Thomas & Friends.
He likes to boast about his shiny red paintwork, and can make fun of the other engines at times, like Thomas, and Percy, but deep down he has a heart of gold wanting to prove himself as being a very useful engine on Sodor.
Why He's Great[]
- Alongside Percy, he is a fan favorite character from the show with his shiny red paintwork, and prideful personality.
- Even though he often boasts about his paintwork, and doesn't like pulling trucks. He wants to prove himself as a very useful engine on Sodor to Sir Topham Hatt, and succeeded in that more than once throughout the series, which makes him a very likeable engine.
- He has shown to be best friends with Thomas, and Percy, despite sometimes making fun of them, and has no problem helping them out on adventures, especially in the direct-to-dvd films.
- He shows remorse for some of his actions.
- He looks nicely painted in shiny red color, and black.
- In the first feature film of the franchise Thomas and the Magic Railroad. He helped escape with Mr. Conductor's cousin Junior using the pixie dust when Diesel 10 cornered them, almost being scrapped in the process.
- His song "Somebody Has To Be The Favorite", is great, and was sung very well.
- Despite wanting to take the special goods train out in the mainland, and Thomas taking it instead. He did the right thing proving his loyalty, and went out to go find Thomas thinking something bad might've happened to him, and alongside Thomas helping him escape from Frankie, and Hurricane in Thomas & Friends Journey Beyond Sodor.
- He helps out in many of the other Thomas & Friends movies, like Hero of the Rails, and Rescue on the Rails.
- He is one of the few characters of Thomas & Friends that hadn't been flanderized during seasons 12-16, 22-24, and the reboot All Engines Go!.
Bad Quality[]
- His prideful nature (while not nearly as bad as Gordon’s), boasting about his shiny red paintwork, and making fun of the other engines, such as Thomas, and Percy still holds him up quite consistently throughout the series.
