Great Characters Wiki

Not to be confused with Dr. Nefario.

Dr. Nefarious is a robotic super villain and a recurring antagonist in the Ratchet & Clank series of video games. Due to the abuse he suffered at the hands of Captain Qwark in high school, he has since harboured a deep hatred of organic lifeforms (or "Squishies" as he calls them), and swore revenge against Qwark for many, many years.

Why He Rocks

  1. He is easily the most entertaining villain in the entire Ratchet & Clank series, providing the perfect balance of comical and sinister.
  2. He is incredibly hammy and over the top insane, which lends itself well to the writing and humour that the series is known for.
  3. Despite the hammy performance, Nefarious is still capable of being a threatening villain, with schemes like robotisizing the galaxy, and controlling time and space.
  4. He has a deep back story presented in a series of side scrolling minigames (Vid-Comics as they're called in universe), showing his previous life as an organic life form, and how he became a robot.
  5. When he is under stress or really angry, he seizes up completely and broadcasts a cheesy romantic soap opera until someone gives him a good slap. The soap opera is just very funny.
  6. He is highly intelligent, shown to be proficient in computers, hacking, and engineering. He built a super weapon capable of turning all organic life into robots for God's sake!
  7. In Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, he is shown to have a good side, as he helps to repair another robot, locates Ephemeris, and finishes off the final boss once and for all... by pimp slapping it!

Bad Qualities

  1. His appearances in both the film and the tie-in game were not fully utilized, as he doesn't get enough screen time to ham it up.

  • Dr. Nefarious makes two appears in the crossover fighting game, PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale; he first appears as an unlockable minion for Ratchet, and again as a stage hazard in the San Francisco arena.
    • The San Francisco arena coincidentally comes from the Resistance series, another Insomniac developed series. In a way, Nefarious is invading Insomniac's other games!
    • Nefarious was also going to be the game's final boss, before being replaced by Polygon Man.
