Why They Rock

  • Incredible voice acting by every voice actor who provides voices for the members of the Cooper Gang.  The most notable ones are Kevin Miller, Matt Olsen, and Chris Murphy, who voices Sly Cooper, Bentley, and Murray, respectively.
  • The relationship between the three main members is incredibly endearing and enjoyable.  You get the feeling that these three are defintiely childhood friends, and it's one of the few instances, even in fiction, when the term "honor among thieves" actually means something, as they would never sell each other out.
  • All three of them are likable and engaging characters, with their own complexities, their own strengths and weaknesses.
  • The gang comprises so many outstanding skills, which is why they've never been caught, such as Sly Cooper's amazing stealth abilities, Murray's incredible strength, and Bentley's outstanding intellect.
  • The new members that join in Sly 3 also also wonderful additions to the gang, such s the dreamtime mystic The Guru, the RC specialist Penelope, the demolitions expert Panda King, and the diver Dimitri.

Bad Qualities

  • Some of the additions in Sly 3:  Honor Among Thieves, such as Panda King and Penelope, seemed really tact on and unecessary.
  • The main members of the Gang were horribly flanderized in Sly Cooper:  Thieves in Time, to the point that, in some ways, they were barely recognizable, (the only one who appeared to be unharmed was Bentley).

Trivia

  • Penelope, the Panda King and the Guru do not return as members of the Cooper Gang in Thieves in Time. Penelope still plays a major role in the game, being the villain of the Medieval England time period. What the Panda King and the Guru have done since Sly 3 is unknown, but The Guru's Staff Piece is found as a treasure in Ancient Arabia. Panda King is referenced only with some of El Jefe's fire attacks.
  • Although she was never a member, Neyla helped the gang in the first set of heists in Sly 2.
  • The signature colors of Sly, Bentley, Murray, and Panda King are the same as the , , , and  buttons, respectively, on the PS2 and PS3 controllers.
    • Each button's functions also match their respective roles in the Cooper Gang:
      • Sly is the master thief, and therefore usually has to jump around during missions.  is the universal jump button.
      • Bentley is the original demolitions expert (though he's not the primary expert during Sly 3), and therefore usually has to drop bombs to complete missions. Bentley uses  to drop bombs.
      • Murray is the muscle, and therefore usually relies on his fists to deal with problems head-on.  is the universal melee button.
      • Panda King is the only exception. He has no controls that work with .
  • Of the seven members, five are mammals, and two are reptiles.
  • The primary members of the Cooper Gang, (Sly, Bentley and Murray) each have something that covers their eyes. Sly has an eye mask (as well as a natural raccoon mask), Bentley has glasses and Murray has goggles.
    • Of the recruited members, only the Guru and Penelope have something covering their eyes. The Guru has face paint and Penelope has glasses.
      • Panda King has markings on his eyes, but they do not cover the entirety of his eyes.
  • The skin colors of all of the recruited members of the Cooper Gang are various shades of purple.
