Bentley is the duteragonist in the video game franchise Sly Cooper. First appearing in Sly Cooper and the Thieveus Raccoonus, (2002), he serves as the brains of the operation, technical specialist, and computer hacker. In Sly 2: Band of Thieves, he takes the field for the first time, taking on the job of the demolitions expert. In Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, he's confined to a wheel chair due to the events of the previous game, but that doesn't hinder his performance at all.
Why He Rocks
- Great character design.
- Excellent voice acting, which improves drastically after the first game.
- Incredbly likeable.
- He cares about those around him a lot. He wears his heart on his sleeve arguably more than even Sly Cooper and Murray do, and is willing to go to great legnths to save them if necessary.
- Very funny.
- The best example of how much he cares about his friends is in Sly 2: Band of Thieves in the episode Jailbreak, when Sly and Murray have been arrested, and he goes in all by himself to save them, despite his intense fear and anxiety.
- He gets the most character development in the series.
- Amazingly intelligent, which is shown perfectly in every game, from his hacking abilities, to his ability to create great gadgets like his wheel chair, his bombs, his pickpocketing magnet, and much, much more, to his ability to create incredibly crafty and thoughtful plans.
Bad Qualities
- Literally nothing is known about his past, his parentage, or how he ended up in Happy Camper Orphanage.
- His voice can be kind of annoying sometimes in Sly 1; thankfully this is much better in the other games, even though he's voiced by the same guy and sounds basically the same.

- Bentley's signature color is green.
- Bentley was the first character to speak in the Sly Cooper series when he first checked in with Sly in Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus. He is also the first to speak in Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves.
- Bentley's former bio in SlyCooper.PlayStation.com stated that he was delivered anonymously as an egg, but it was then revised to his current backstory. He is so far the only character who's backstory has changed.
- In the Japanese manuals, Bentley has a last name; Wiseturtle.
- He has an I.Q. of at least 140, as stated when Sly opens the vault in "Jailbreak" of Sly 2.
- In Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Bentley has two strands of hair on his head, but they aren't seen in cutscenes. From Sly 2 onwards he does not appear to have any hair.
- According to Sly 3, he is supposedly allergic to tomatoes, as shown during a threat from Don Octavio, though whether that's true or not is unknown. He also reveals in Australia that he's allergic to lemons, although he suffers no ill effects from the lemonade.
- In Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, he mentions just looking at the chicken coop "has got him breaking down in hives", implying he may be allergic to hay and/or chickens.
- He remarks several times throughout the series that he suffers from asthma.
- He understands Navajo code talk, as stated when Sly opens the vault during the job "Two to Tango" in "Sunset Snake Eyes" of the first game.
- He's also fluent in Sanskrit as stated when Sly opens the vault in "The Predator Awakes" of Sly 2.
- Starting from Sly 2 but prior to Thieves in Time, Bentley's appearance in official artwork is often inconsistent with his in-game appearance, particularly his character model.
- In Sly 2, Bentley is depicted wearing a bulletproof vest in official artwork and in animated cutscenes. However, his character model depicts him wearing a blue vest which he would wear in Sly 3.
- Official artwork and animated cutscenes in Sly 2 show that Bentley's pith helmet has a chin strap, which his character model lacks during gameplay. The chin strap would properly appear in his appearance in Thieves in Time.
- In Sly 3, both his helmet and vest are colored brownish green in the artwork, but blue in the actual gameplay and during animated cutscenes.
- Thieves in Time is the only game that depicts Bentley's character model wearing the bulletproof vest, accurate to his Sly 2 artwork, save for the wheelchair that he currently operates in Thieves in Time.
- This makes Thieves in Time the only game that Bentley's physical appearance is consistent from his character model to official artwork to animated cutscenes.
- The helmet he wears in Sly 3 is a standard handicapped helmet.
- In Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Bentley's binocucom has a picture of Penelope in the bottom left. However, after Bentley discovered that Penelope was working for Cyrille Le Paradox, he scribbled all over the picture, showing her as a devil, implying his new anger.
- Funnily enough, he scribbled Penelope's eyes with the Sanzaru monkey's eyes: a plus sign and a minus sign.
- His friendship with Sly is rather ironic as turtles are preyed on by raccoons.
- Also ironic is his relationship with Penelope, as turtles can eat mice.
- In Sly 2, during the ending cutscene of "Jailbreak," Bentley is shown to possess a picture of a female turtle with brown hair, a pink plastron, and purple brow-line glasses. It is unknown who this is.
- In Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Bentley's computer has a logo on the back that says "Shell." This logo is a play on words and looks very similar to, actual computer manufacturer, Dell's logo.
- During his mech fight with Penelope in Thieves in Time, Bentley will taunt that Penelope's mech design is "so 2005," which was the year Sly 3 was released, the game in which Penelope debuted.
- In the prologue of Thieves in Time, when Bentley is in the sewers, he says, "Interesting... the last time I was in these sewers, I was just a teenager." This is a reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
- During an animated cutscene from Of Mice and Mechs, despite his legs being paralyzed, he is still able to move them when he retreats into his shell.
- It is also there when the interior of Bentley's shell and himself without his shell is shown.
- Bentley has only shown signs of anger on rare occasions; for instance, during his promo trailer "Bentley's Helpline" where he gets frustrated during a helpline call. He is also angry when Neyla betrays the team, while eavesdropping on the Contessa, and when he finds dead fish in tar.
- He uses internet slang while on social chat ("lol" and "wuzzzuuup" for example).
- Bentley's ThiefNet chat photo is his head Photoshopped onto the body of a buff individual with blond hair.
- As shown in the job "Heavy Metal Meltdown," Bentley likes rock n' roll.
- Sly implies in the job "Shopping Spree" that Bentley waxes his shell.
- In the Japanese versions, Bentley was voiced by Mitsuaki Madono in the first two games. Since the third game (including PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and The Sly Collection), he has been voiced by Daisuke Kishio.
- In Thieves in Time, when accessing the mini-games area, you can see Bentley playing ping pong with Sly while reading a book and letting one of his robotic arms do the work. You can play ping-pong as Sly in this area against Bentley. Although, if you have two controllers connected, the second player will take control of Bentley.
- The upper frame of Bentley's glasses in Thieves in Time now mimics eye blinking during non-animated cutscenes, becoming much more expressive than just simply changing shape similarly to eyebrows.
- Sometimes when selected at the safehouse in Thieves in Time, Bentley will lift up his glasses and reveal his true dotty eyes.
- When selected in the safe house in Thieves in Time, Bentley will have a much happier expression, being just as eager to head out on the field as Sly and Murray. This is a huge contrast to his expression when selected in the safe houses in Sly 2 and 3, in which he will looks at his teammates with nervousness and reluctance.
- Unlike Sly and Murray, Bentley never fights bosses with his default moveset during any boss fights he participates in, with the exception of one part during "Operation: Moon Crash" in Sly 3.
- In "Brains Over Brawn" in Sly 2, Bentley uses a walkie-talkie to relay commands to Sly to activate traps to combat Jean Bison and his lackeys in lieu of wielding his crossbow and bombs.
- In "Operation: Mousetrap" in Thieves in Time, Bentley's portion of the boss battle has him piloting a fighting mech in a one-on-one match against Penelope.
- As seen in the introduction cutscene of Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, when it shows Sly, Bentley and Murray changing to their older appearance, Bentley's physical appearance does not change; his size just increases.
