BeautyBelle(1991)

Belle is the female protagonist of Disney's 1991 animated feature film, Beauty and the Beast. She is an intelligent and undeniably beautiful young woman whose traits are looked down upon in her small French village. As a result of her status as an outcast, Belle yearns to break out of the small-minded community to experience a life of adventure.

Why She Rocks

  1. She is the smartest and most intelligent of the Disney Princesses, she is also one of the most memorable.
  2. She loves reading books, which is why she is so smart.
  3. Unlike most Disney Princesses, like Ariel or Snow White, Belle is aware that the villain of her movie (Gaston) is truly bad.
  4. Her design is beautiful and well-drawn, hence her name Belle translating to Beauty.
  5. She has a great personality.
  6. Due to her amazing beauty, many male characters have fallen for her at one point (Gaston, the Beast, townsfolk, Lumiere, etc.)
  7. She is a mixture of Cinderella and Fa Mulan, as while she’s a damsel in distress she can also put her foot down and stand up for herself sometimes.
  8. While considered very beautiful, she is also willing to find people’s inner beauty, i.e. the Beast.
  9. She has an amazing singing voice.
  10. Emma Watson does an amazing job as her live-action counterpart.

Bad Qualities

  1. Her 2015 Descendants version lacks the charm of the animated version. She is against the idea of welcoming the children of villains to Auradon and doesn't come to their aid later on either. What was the point of her movie again? If beauty was found on the outside, she might as well have married Gaston or joined the angry mob. Great life lesson Disney!
